THE ERA OF MARIAH DAWNE: THE BAYOU SONGBIRD TAKES FLIGHT

When Snubb3d Magazine began planning our 6th Anniversary Edition, we knew this moment required a woman whose story carried power, purpose, and presence. Someone who represents excellence, evolution, and the resilience of Black artistry. Someone who embodies what it means to rise—beautifully, boldly, and undeniably.

And so we chose Mariah Dawne, affectionately known as The Bayou Songbird—a woman whose voice is velvet, whose journey is inspiring, and whose purpose extends far beyond the stage. Her story is the heartbeat of this issue. Her truth is its spotlight. Her voice is its soundtrack.

THE YEAR OF RESURGENCE

This milestone issue is built around one theme: Resurgence—a rebirth of passion, creativity, and inner fire. It is a celebration of artists who have come back stronger, dreamers who kept going, and innovators carving new lanes in culture and entertainment.

Mariah’s journey mirrors that same resurgence. Her life, her music, and her mission all rise from a place of grit, grace, and God.

WHY WE CHOSE HER

Mariah Dawne isn’t just entering a new era—she’s defining one.

She is a recording artist, a prolific songwriter, a NICU nurse, a faith-driven woman, a philanthropic voice for children, and a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. Her life is living proof that purpose and passion can coexist—and flourish.

Mariah is also an active partner with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, supporting their Love Music Stop Cancer campaign under the #MusicGives initiative. Through this partnership, she uses her platform to raise awareness and funds for children fighting life-threatening illnesses. For Mariah, music is not just a career—it’s a calling.

Her motto?
“Dream with your eyes wide open.”
And she lives it.

THE MAKING OF A BAYOU SONGBIRD

Born Mariah Dawne Hester in Shreveport, Louisiana, she grew up surrounded by soul, scripture, and song. Her musical roots were planted early—at age five—with the church choir, local talent shows, school plays, and her mother’s disciplined vocal coaching shaping the artist she would become.

An old soul with young fire, Mariah expanded her gifts beyond singing. She excelled in public speaking, dance, painting, pottery, and community leadership. Even while pursuing a demanding nursing path, she continued to perform, write, and refine her artistry with unwavering determination.

Her breakthrough came with her Billboard R&B Top 30 hit “Material Girl,” showcasing her ability to blend contemporary R&B with classic soul sensibilities. The world took notice—then followed her latest release, “Hold on Me” (Act I & II) featuring Grammy-winning icon Raheem DeVaughn, further solidifying her as one to watch.

THE MUSIC, THE MOVEMENT, THE MOMENT

Mariah recently signed a recording deal with SRG-ILS Group, distributed by Virgin Music/UMG, an achievement that marks a powerful new chapter. Her newest single “Pink Lemonade” dropped September 19th and immediately caught the attention of R&B lovers for its nostalgic warmth and modern edge.
