LIVING PROOF: HULU PREMIERES POWERFUL WORLD AIDS DAY DOCUMENTARY CELEBRATING BLACK WOMEN’S STORIES

Hulu is honoring World AIDS Day with the premiere of Living Proof, a bold and necessary new documentary executive-produced by Emmy-winning icon Sheryl Lee Ralph in partnership with The DIVA Foundation. The film shifts the spotlight toward a long-ignored truth: Black women living with HIV are rarely centered in mainstream narratives, despite being deeply impacted by the epidemic.

A STORY ROOTED IN ATLANTA — AND IN SISTERHOOD

Set in Atlanta, a city at the heart of the Southern HIV crisis, Living Proof follows the groundbreaking work of Freda Jones and Kennedi Lowman, founders of LOTUS (Loving Ourselves Through Unity and Strength). Their grassroots movement is reshaping how Black women reclaim their voices, build community, and access life-saving resources.

From candid conversations about prevention and PrEP to the healing power of collective support, the documentary captures not just a public health battle — but a movement of liberation, empathy, and strength.

EXPOSING THE SYSTEMS BLACK WOMEN PUSH AGAINST

Living Proof tackles the realities many Black women face:

  • Medical discrimination
  • Persistent stigma
  • Underfunded public health initiatives

By centering Jones and Lowman’s lived experiences and leadership, the project illuminates how Black women are rewriting their narratives, advocating for themselves, and building future pathways toward wellness.

A STAR-STUDDED, IMPACTFUL CREATIVE TEAM

Directed by Zeberiah Newman, the documentary is executive-produced by:

  • Sheryl Lee Ralph
  • Zeberiah Newman
  • Michiel Thomas
  • Norman Lee

With a musical score by Emmy and Grammy-nominated B.Slade, the film stands as a deeply personal, culturally relevant artistic achievement.

This powerful collaboration between The DIVA Foundation, Gilead Sciences, OraQuick, and ABC Owned Television Stations reflects a unified commitment to amplifying voices often erased from the HIV conversation.
