Get ready for laughs, love, and emotional chaos wrapped inside one unforgettable story because RodFather Productions is bringing the heat to the 30th Annual American Black Film Festival with the highly anticipated romantic comedy Funny Feelings.
Set to officially premiere on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Miami Beach, Funny Feelings will screen at the Miami Beach Convention Center during one of the culture’s most important celebrations of Black film and storytelling. And honestly? This one already feels like it’s about to become a fan favorite.
Directed by Rhonda Baraka, the film stars an exciting lineup including Tristan Mack Wilds, Pretty Vee, Chadwick Farley, Etienne Maurice, Pastor Mike McClure Jr., Terri J. Vaughn, Danielle LaRoach, and Kinyumba Mutakabbir.
At its core, Funny Feelings is more than just a romantic comedy. It is a layered story about friendship, ambition, vulnerability, and the emotional games people play when love becomes too real to joke about.
The story follows Nick and Zoey, two best friends who built their chemistry during their HBCU college days through comedy, connection, and undeniable tension. Years later, the pair have turned their dynamic into a successful brand — with Zoey becoming a rising podcast personality while Nick dominates the stand-up comedy circuit nationwide. Together, their viral “are-they-or-aren’t-they” energy keeps fans invested, entertained, and constantly speculating.
But behind the punchlines and social media moments lies unresolved emotions, complicated timing, and feelings neither one of them has truly been brave enough to confront.
The film blends modern Black love, internet culture, and emotional realism in a way that feels authentic to today’s generation. Think the comedic chemistry of viral content creators mixed with the timeless emotional pull of classic Black romance films. As relationships begin to unravel, old wounds reopen, rivals appear, and a major JesterStream comedy special pushes everything to the edge, Nick and Zoey are forced to confront the truth behind the performance.
And when private feelings explode publicly onstage and social media turns heartbreak into entertainment, the story transforms into something deeper — a conversation about vulnerability, fear, and what happens when people spend so long pretending not to love each other that they almost believe the lie themselves.
With its mix of comedy, romance, emotional tension, and culturally grounded storytelling, Funny Feelings is shaping up to be one of the standout conversation pieces at ABFF 2026. The film not only taps into modern relationship dynamics but also celebrates Black creativity, HBCU culture, and the messy beauty of emotional honesty.
If early buzz is any indication, audiences are about to laugh, cringe, reflect, and maybe even text somebody they “just friends” with after watching this one.
