Kwamé Returns with “Ms Mary Mack” — A Fresh Spin on a Classic Vibe

Hip-hop trailblazer Kwamé has stepped back into the spotlight, and he’s bringing his signature wit, energy, and creativity with him. Today, the multi–award-winning, platinum artist and producer drops “Ms Mary Mack”, the first single from his highly anticipated upcoming album, The Different Kids, set to arrive globally on August 29th via SRG-ILS Group/Virgin Music/(UMG).

Written, performed, and produced entirely by Kwamé, “Ms Mary Mack” is a masterclass in slick wordplay, bouncing flow, and nostalgia-flipped originality. Anchored by hard-hitting hip-hop drums layered with the playful cadence of classic hood nursery rhymes and double-dutch callouts, the track is both a nod to the past and a declaration of timeless artistry.

“Ms Mary Mack is a song with heavy flow and slick wordplay,” Kwamé explains. “The music is inspired by juke joint vibes over hard hip-hop drums.”

The accompanying visuals — co-directed by Kwamé and Jonathan Jacobs — are just as layered as the song itself. Drawing inspiration from Kwamé’s iconic “The Rhythm” video, the new clip places him in an all-white outfit with polka dot accents, performing in a speakeasy-style Kit Kat Club. But this time, the room is empty. Is it before the crowd arrives, or after the party’s over? Either way, the energy never fades.

Kwamé’s return to the mic isn’t just a nostalgia trip — it’s a creative rebirth. The Different Kids promises to explore every side of his artistry: from social commentary to razor-sharp storytelling, to introspective conversations with his younger self.

“I decided I was only going to rap over beats I wanted to rap over,” he says. “I’m not going to allow what’s ‘in style’ or ‘out of style’ dictate what I do… That thought process is the soul of the album.”
