Lifetime hosted the NYC premiere of its original film Mary J. Blige Presents Be Happy, marking a powerful moment for storytelling rooted in reinvention, love, and self-discovery. The evening brought together a vibrant mix of creatives, industry leaders, tastemakers, and supporters to honor a film that speaks directly to women standing at life’s crossroads.

Presented as part of Lifetime’s Love of a Lifetime slate, Be Happy is the first release under the network’s newly extended partnership with Mary J. Blige, continuing a run of original films inspired by her iconic music. The NYC premiere reflected the film’s emotional core—intimate, honest, and deeply resonant.
Produced by Blue Butterfly Productions in collaboration with Monami Productions, Motion Entertainment, and Swirl Films, the project centers women both in front of and behind the camera. The film stars Tisha Campbell, alongside Mekhi Phifer and Russell Hornsby, delivering a story that explores midlife, intimacy, and the courage to choose oneself.

The film also marks a major milestone behind the scenes, with Academy Award® nominee Gabourey Sidibe making her television film directorial debut, bringing nuance and heart to a script by Cameron J. Ross.

Be Happy premieres Saturday, February 7 at 8/7c on Lifetime, inviting audiences nationwide to experience a story that asks a timeless question: Is it ever too late to reclaim your voice and rewrite your future?
