R.I.H. Queen of Katwe:Nikita Pearl Waligwa UGANDAN DISNEY ACTRESS
Tragic news struck today as Disney’s teenage star Nikita Pearl Waligwa has passed away at the age of 15.
The star was known for her role in the Disney movie on the extraordinary life of a local chess prodigy
Nikita died of brain tumour, according to her school Gayaza High School, which she had reportedly attended since 2018
It is reported that Nikita had first been diagnosed with a brain tumor 4 years ago in 2016. After making a recovery in 2017, she was found with another tumor
The film was about a chess prodigy rising from African in an Ugandan slum. This was based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi. She began playing chess at 9 years old and went on to compete in international tournaments.
The Disney Movie: Queen of Katwe starred Award winning Lupita Nyong’o as her mother and David Oyelowo as her chess teacher. Waligwa portrayed Gloria, a friend of Phiona who explained the rules of chess to her.
