Atlanta Black Pride Weekend Celebrates 20 Years, Powered by Gilead Sciences

Atlanta Black Pride Weekend marked a major milestone in 2026, celebrating 20 years of culture, community and visibility with a weekend that brought thousands of members of the Black LGBTQ+ community and allies together across Atlanta.

Powered by Gilead Sciences, this year’s celebration extended beyond entertainment. Across several signature events, conversations surrounding HIV prevention, PrEP, wellness, leadership and health equity were integrated into spaces created to celebrate Black LGBTQ+ life.

From Cultural Architects and the 7th Annual Mayor’s Black Pride Reception to Pride + PrEP at V12, the Influencers’ Gala and the Pure Heat Community Festival, Gilead’s presence throughout the weekend highlighted the importance of reaching communities with HIV education, prevention and care resources in spaces where people already gather, connect and celebrate.

Reimagining the Black Swan

The weekend began with Nathan Hale’s Cultural Architects, an intimate gathering centered on culture, connection and conversation.

Under the theme “Reimagining the Black Swan,” the event explored the longstanding creative, emotional and cultural relationship between Black gay and queer men and Black women.

Rather than separating community conversation from celebration, Cultural Architects created a space where both could exist together, setting the tone for a weekend rooted in visibility, connection and collective progress.

That spirit continued during the 7th Annual Mayor’s Black Pride Reception at Atlanta City Hall, where community members joined elected officials and local leaders to recognize individuals and organizations contributing to a more inclusive Atlanta. The reception included proclamations presented by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

Black Gay Leadership Takes Center Stage

Leadership was also a central part of the weekend.

Native Son’s Black Gay Leadership Forum, powered by Gilead Sciences and held under the leadership of Emil Wilbekin, gathered Black gay leaders, executives, entrepreneurs, creatives and advocates for conversations surrounding leadership, health equity, visibility and the future of the community.

The forum featured Nicco Annan, Tre Melvin, Hakim Asadi, Dr. Leo Moore and Craig Washington, creating an intentional environment for attendees to exchange ideas, build relationships and consider how collective leadership can address issues affecting Black LGBTQ+ communities.

The gathering reinforced an important message throughout the weekend: representation matters, but creating lasting progress also requires investment in the people and organizations doing the work year-round.

Pride, PrEP and Meeting the Community Where It Is

Health education took a different approach at Pride + PrEP at V12 Restaurant & Sports Bar.

Instead of placing conversations surrounding sexual health and HIV prevention exclusively within traditional healthcare environments, the activation incorporated them into an accessible social experience.

Guests were encouraged to learn more about PrEP and HIV prevention while connecting and celebrating with the community.

The approach reflected one of the larger themes running throughout Atlanta Black Pride Weekend: health and wellness can be discussed openly, culturally and without removing joy from the conversation.

Giving Community Leaders Their Flowers

The Influencers’ Gala shifted the spotlight toward individuals whose work has made an impact across entertainment, entrepreneurship, advocacy and the LGBTQ+ community.

The 2026 class of honorees included Jesseca Harris-Dupart, Vinny Watson, Carlos King, SG, Cliff Vmir, MC Fatha Flex, Karen “KD” Douglas, Niesha Dupree and Dr. Felicia Ivey.

A special award was also presented to A Vision For Hope, a Fulton County nonprofit dedicated to providing resources, opportunities and support to youth, seniors and members of the LGBTQ+ community. The organization’s mission includes creating a comprehensive safe haven where members of those communities can thrive.

Across the weekend, special guests and performers included Durand Bernarr, Saucy Santana, Tamar Braxton, Cynthia Bailey, Oliver Twixt, Patrice “Sway” McKinney, Big Sexy, Billy The Goat and Terrell Carter, among others.

Their appearances added another layer of entertainment and culture to a weekend built around both celebration and purpose.

Pure Heat Brings the Celebration to Piedmont Park

Atlanta Black Pride Weekend ultimately culminated with the Pure Heat Community Festival at Piedmont Park, one of the weekend’s largest community gatherings.

The outdoor festival combined live entertainment with health and wellness resources, community engagement and messages of empowerment, allowing thousands to close out the milestone celebration together.

It was also a fitting conclusion to a weekend that repeatedly demonstrated how entertainment, culture, health and advocacy can occupy the same space.

Twenty Years of Pride, Purpose and Progress

Reaching 20 years represents more than another anniversary for Atlanta Black Pride Weekend.

For two decades, the celebration has helped create spaces where Black LGBTQ+ people can be visible, celebrated and connected to one another. In 2026, that mission continued while creating opportunities for conversations that directly affect the health and future of the community.

Through its support of events across the weekend, Gilead Sciences helped keep HIV education, prevention, care and health equity connected to the broader celebration.

The result was a milestone weekend that honored where Atlanta Black Pride has been while continuing conversations about where the community goes next.

Because after 20 years, Atlanta Black Pride Weekend remains about more than simply showing up.

It’s about culture, visibility, wellness, community and creating space for the generations still to come.
