Voices of Legacy: A Celebration of Zeta Phi Beta’s 105th Founders Day

What happens when five powerhouse voices come together to honor a century-old legacy? Magic. Absolute magic. On the 105th Founders Day of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, the incomparable talents of Syleena Johnson, Leela James, Mariah., Lexi Allen, and Anita Wilson united to deliver a heartfelt rendition of the Zeta Hymn—a moment that blended music, history, and sisterhood into an unforgettable celebration.

A Tribute Rooted in Legacy

Founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University, Zeta Phi Beta has long stood as a beacon of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood. These core values, championed by the Five Pearls—Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts—remain the foundation of the sorority.

To honor this legacy, five extraordinary Sorors stepped forward. With voices as dynamic as their commitment to the sisterhood, Syleena Johnson, Leela James, Mariah., Lexi Allen, and Anita Wilson brought new life to the Zeta Hymn, written by Anita Turpeau in 1924 and composed by Audrey B. Robinson in 1953.

A Performance That Resonated Across Generations

“This was more than a performance—it was a love letter to our sisterhood,” shared Mariah. “As sisterhood is one of our core values, I thought a unified rendition of the Zeta Hymn among sisters would truly embody that value.”

Lexi Allen echoed her sentiments: “When we stood together and sang, it was a powerful, unforgettable moment. That harmony didn’t just make history; it strengthened a legacy that will last forever.”

The performance was a stirring reminder of the sorority’s values, brought to life through song. Each note carried the weight of history, the love of sisterhood, and the power of finer womanhood.

For Zetas worldwide, the annual “J20” celebration is a time to reflect on the enduring impact of their founders’ vision. This year’s live event, Living the Legacy, was a highlight of the 105th anniversary, with the performance of the Zeta Hymn taking center stage.
