Before The Premiere: Antebellum

The main focal point of horror films is to construct a different genre of a film by terrifying the audience in an exhilarating manner. However, other horror films take a contrasting approach by embedding deeper meanings and possible truth to the overall plot of the film. Antebellum is your alternate horror film that’ll not only scare but allow a thought of realization. The upcoming movie paints a story of a successful author who realizes she’s in a disturbing reality and attempts to discover the mystery before it’s too late.

The star of the film, Janelle Monae is known for being an electrifying singer with her unique style of appearance and overall sound. Janelle’s breakthrough in the music industry was her hit single, Tightrope, featuring rapper Big Boi. Further, in her music career, Monae released several iconic songs such as Yoga, PrimeTime, PYNK, and I Like That. She also previously collaborated with notable artists like Miguel, Erykah Badu, and Jidenna. For a long stride in music, Monae has received eight Grammy Award nominations and won an MTV Video Music Award and the ASCAP Vanguard Award in 2010. Aside from her music, Janelle is an astounding actor by playing significant roles in Hidden Figures, Harriet, Moonlight, and Welcome to Marwen. Also, she advocates for how important black lives matter in police brutality and other harsh injustices against the community. Janelle Monae will bring exceptional talent and true fear of this film to bring it alive.

From the trailer, Antebellum gives off identical suspense from high-rating movies Get Out and Us. By expecting the same suspense, it is possible for a relatable meaning to be hidden within the movie as well as allowing the audience to have different interpretations. Having an audience try to make sense of a movie’s plot only adds higher viewer ratings and publicity for the film. The release date of Antebellum is August 21st of this year.
