Romeo Miller Finds His “New Lane” With Double Album Blending Music, Purpose and Affirmation

Romeo Miller is stepping back into music, but this time, he’s doing it on his own terms.

The multi-hyphenate platinum recording artist has released his anticipated double album, NEW LANE, available globally beginning August 21 via SRG-ILS Group/PK Carter Music. More than a traditional return to recording, the project represents a new chapter for Romeo—one rooted in purpose, faith, personal growth and the power of positive messaging.

Across two discs, NEW LANE brings together contemporary hip-hop and R&B with motivational spoken word and affirmations, allowing Romeo to explore both the entertainer audiences have known for decades and the man he has become behind the spotlight.

Finding Purpose in a New Direction

For Romeo, the concept behind NEW LANE arrived at a moment when he was already thinking about how his next musical chapter could look different.

Growing up in the entertainment industry gave him an early understanding of the business, but he says he never fully fell in love with the industry side of music. A conversation with business partner PK Carter about incorporating affirmations and spoken word into his music helped provide a new creative direction—one that aligned with something Romeo had recently prayed about.

NEW LANE was inspired by the hope of wanting to shed a light on a new lane,” Romeo shares, explaining that the project ultimately became about alignment.

That intention is reflected in the structure of the album itself. Disc One delivers seven traditional songs, while Disc Two features nine affirmation-centered recordings created to encourage, motivate and speak directly to listeners.

“SELFIE” Turns Self-Love Into an Affirmation

Ahead of the album, Romeo introduced listeners to two different sides of NEW LANE with the release of “SELFIE (Affirmation)” and “DOIN SOMETHING” featuring Trevor Jackson.

Written by Romeo Miller, Marcus D. Carter and Brett Nolan, and produced by Nolan, “SELFIE” is built around self-worth and positive reinforcement.

“We all are worthy, we all are beautiful, and SELFIE is a daily reminder of that,” Romeo says.

Rather than simply returning with another conventional single, Romeo is using the affirmation side of the project to explore what music can do beyond entertainment. The album includes affirmations centered on everything from starting the morning with intention to happiness, emotional vulnerability, motivation and rest.

Romeo and Trevor Jackson Bring Back an Early 2000s R&B Feel

On the other side of the project, Romeo teams with singer and actor Trevor Jackson for “DOIN SOMETHING,” a melodic R&B record with a throwback feel and a message about navigating relationships when everything isn’t perfect.

Written by Candice C. Nelson, Romeo Miller, Trevor Jackson and Marcus D. Carter, and produced by Lieutenant Can, the track was intentionally created to capture some of the energy of early 2000s R&B.

“Coming back to music, I just knew I wanted my songs to have purpose,” Romeo shares. “We wanted to bring back those early 2000’s vibes with Doin Something and we did that!”

From Lil’ Romeo to a New Chapter

For longtime fans, NEW LANE also represents another evolution in a career audiences have watched unfold since Romeo was a child.

Born in New Orleans and introduced to the world as Lil’ Romeo, the son of hip-hop entrepreneur Master P became a breakout star with his 2001 debut album and hit single “My Baby.” His career soon expanded into television with Nickelodeon’s Romeo!, along with film, reality television, athletics, entrepreneurship and other ventures.

Now, decades removed from the young star who first entered the industry, Romeo is using music to reflect the priorities that have increasingly shaped his life—including faith, fatherhood, wellness, resilience and personal development.

And that may be what makes the title NEW LANE particularly fitting.

This isn’t simply Romeo Miller attempting to recreate an earlier chapter of his career. It’s an artist acknowledging where he has been while creating space for who he is now.

As Romeo puts it: “When God says go, you go—and now I’m back with New Lane.”
