Fresh off his sixth GRAMMY® win, multi-award and Grammy-winning hyphenate PJ Morton is entering a powerful new chapter. The SRG-ILS Group has officially welcomed Morton’s independent imprint, Morton Records, to its distinguished label roster—marking a strategic partnership that signals expansion, elevation, and legacy-building at the highest level.
A New Orleans native whose sound is steeped in soul, faith, culture, and intention, PJ Morton is far more than a recording artist. He is a 6x GRAMMY® Award winner and 22-time nominee whose accolades span BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. His ability to bridge classic soul with contemporary storytelling has earned him sold-out shows at iconic venues such as the Apollo Theater and stages across the globe.
Beyond his solo career, Morton has spent the last 15 years as the full-time keyboardist for Maroon 5, while simultaneously building Morton Records into a respected platform for authentic, independent artistry. His collaborations read like a masterclass in musical excellence—Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Jon Batiste, Nas, Lil Wayne, JoJo, and Jill Scott, among many others.
He also made history as the first Black composer to write an original song for a Disney attraction—Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, now open at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland—further solidifying his place as a cultural architect who transcends genre and medium.
“PJ Morton is a generational talent and everyone here at SRG/ILS is extremely excited to be part of his upcoming projects,” shares Claude Villani, CEO and Founder of The SRG-ILS Group.
PJ echoes the enthusiasm. “I am excited about this new partnership. When Walter Millsap initially brought the idea to me, I knew it would be a perfect fit for what Morton Records and I were trying to do to take it to the next level.”
Under the new partnership, Morton Records and SRG-ILS Group will begin rolling out music from PJ Morton’s forthcoming album later this year—an announcement that has already sparked anticipation among fans and industry insiders alike.
Morton’s artistry has always been rooted in intentional storytelling. His recent solo album Cape Town to Cairo was crafted during a transformative 30-day journey across Africa, and his memoir Saturday Night, Sunday Morning chronicles his personal and professional evolution—navigating music, faith, race, and identity with honesty and depth.
His creative expansion continues into film and television, including writing the closing song for Regina King’s Netflix film Shirley and producing music for Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish, Blue Fish on Netflix. Through his “A PJ Morton Production” series, he champions cross-genre collaborations from hip-hop to gospel, all helmed from Studio in the Country—his historic 26-acre recording complex in Bogalusa, Louisiana. The legendary studio, once home to Stevie Wonder, The Neville Brothers, and Willie Nelson, is now being preserved and revitalized under Morton’s stewardship.
With this new alliance between SRG-ILS Group and Morton Records, the future is not just promising—it’s intentional. A partnership rooted in excellence, independence, and vision, this moment underscores what happens when legacy meets leadership.
