Daley Captures the Sound of Summer with Soulful New Single “Slide”

After making a powerful return earlier this year with the emotionally rich single Lavender, British singer-songwriter Daley is keeping the momentum alive with a brand-new release that feels tailor-made for the season.

His latest single, “Slide,” trades introspection for celebration, delivering an infectious blend of feel-good R&B, soulful melodies, and nostalgic grooves that invite listeners to embrace the joy of living in the moment.

Following his first official release since 2018, Lavender reintroduced audiences to Daley’s signature artistry through a deeply personal exploration of intimacy, vulnerability, and emotional surrender. Now, with Slide, the acclaimed vocalist shifts gears while remaining true to the authenticity that has defined his career.

Written by Daley alongside Rashaan Brown and produced by acclaimed UK producer Swindle, Slide is a vibrant celebration of connection, movement, and summertime energy. Rich orchestral strings meet irresistible basslines, smooth guitar work, and Daley’s unmistakable vocals to create a record that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

The inspiration behind the song came naturally.

“After being in the studio all week working on other deadlines, we needed a release, to feel a little joy and make something purely for the fun of it,” Daley shared. “Swindle worked out a bassline, some drums, Rashaan Brown laid guitar, and I started sketching melodies. It resulted in us dancing around the studio, living our best lives.”

That spontaneous creativity is felt throughout the record.

Drawing inspiration from legendary acts including Earth, Wind & Fire, Toto, and Prince, Slide embraces timeless musicianship while delivering a contemporary R&B sound designed for cookouts, road trips, summer nights, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Lyrically, the song explores the magnetic attraction between two people who have long danced around their feelings before finally choosing to move forward together.

“It’s the magnetic pull between two people who have been feeling each other for a while but not fully admitting it, who are finally ready to stop resisting and move together in the same direction,” Daley explained.

The song also intentionally challenges today’s songwriting trends.

Rather than following the traditional formula dominating much of modern R&B, Daley and his collaborators quickly transition into an expansive bridge, paying homage to one of the genre’s most beloved songwriting elements.

“We didn’t want to wait to get to the bridge,” Daley said. “It felt necessary at a time where bridges seem to be disappearing from R&B.”

The release continues an exciting new chapter for the Manchester-born artist, whose career has earned collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, Jill Scott, Jessie J, Marsha Ambrosius, Gorillaz, and many others while receiving recognition from the GRAMMY Awards, BET, Soul Train Awards, and the MOBO Awards.

Fans will soon have the opportunity to experience this new era live when Daley launches his 26-city U.S. tour beginning September 16 in St. Louis, Missouri, bringing both his beloved catalog and new music to audiences across the country.

If Lavender represented reflection and healing, Slide is the celebration that follows.

It’s a reminder that sometimes the best songs aren’t just heard.

They’re lived.
