Happy Founders’ Day To The Men of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. (ΚΑΨ)

On January 5, 1911, the legendary fraternity known as: Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. (ΚΑΨ) came to life at Indiana University in Bloomington, making it the second historically Black fraternity ever!

Originally named Kappa Alpha Nu, it was born from the minds of ten awesome Black men who aimed to break free from racially exclusive student groups and build strong bonds among African American students.

Fast forward to today – we’re talking over 150,000 members representing in every corner of the U.S., rocking over 700 undergrad and alumni chapters. Oh, did I mention they’re making waves internationally too? Yep, from South Africa to Canada, Nigeria to the United Kingdom and the Caribbean!

At the grassroots level, Kappa Alpha Psi® local chapters actively engage in community outreach initiatives, such as providing meals for the homeless, awarding scholarships to aspiring college-bound youth, mentoring young men, organizing blood drives, and hosting seminars on public health awareness, among other endeavors. On a national scale, Kappa Alpha Psi® has made significant contributions, including funding summer enrichment camps and raising over $1 million for St. Jude Medical Research Center in the fight against childhood catastrophic diseases.

Internationally, Kappa Alpha Psi® members have exemplified a commitment to service by serving in the military since WWI, as well as rallying funds to aid those affected by natural disasters worldwide, spanning hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, and earthquakes.
