Black Excellence Brunch Celebrates 20 Years of BLACK GIRLS ROCK! with $50,000 Donation from Black Lives Matter

Atlanta was the backdrop for a momentous occasion at the recent Black Excellence Brunch, hosted by visionary founder Trell Thomas, where BLACK GIRLS ROCK! (BGR) was honored for two decades of uplifting and empowering Black women and girls. This celebrated event, known for spotlighting individuals and organizations making transformative contributions to the Black community, became a beacon of collaboration, gratitude, and hope.

The highlight of the brunch was a powerful announcement by Cicley Gay, Board Chairwoman of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, revealing a $50,000 donation to support BGR’s nonprofit youth initiatives.

Gay eloquently underscored the alignment of purpose between the two organizations:
“We are getting this money back in the hands of the organizations doing the work in our communities. BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has been consistently uplifting Black women and girls for the last 20 years, and we are honored to join forces. Black Lives Matter now and always, and in all ways. We are building the largest philanthropic abolitionist organization to ever exist.”

A Legacy of Empowerment

Founded by the trailblazing Beverly Bond, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has become a cultural cornerstone for celebrating and empowering Black women and girls. Reflecting on the honor and partnership, Bond expressed heartfelt appreciation:
“It is a profound honor to be recognized at the Black Excellence Brunch and to feel the incredible support from Cicley Gay and the Black Lives Matter team. This partnership is a reminder of the strength, hope, and solutions we build when we come together.”

The $50,000 contribution will directly fuel impactful programs such as BLACK GIRLS LEAD and GIRLS ROCK TECH, initiatives designed to equip young girls with the tools, confidence, and leadership skills necessary to thrive in the modern world.

A Testament to Unity and Progress

The collaboration between Black Lives Matter and BLACK GIRLS ROCK! represents the immense power of unity in action. Together, these organizations are driving meaningful change by investing in the future of Black girls who will undoubtedly continue to “rock the world.”
